Marathoning in Hawaii, and Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and Ohio, and...
Did you know that there is a special club for people who complete a marathon in each of the 50 U.S. States? Well, it's true and two of our intrepid walkers are on their way to becoming members of the club. Their strait jackets should arrive with their membership cards!
Jay and Jill are walking the Myrtle Beach Marathon in less than two weeks and it will be their 8th marathon since they crossed the finish line in Honolulu in December 2005. They are two more marathons away from being able to apply as a standard member in the 50 States Marathon Club. A standard member has to have completed at least 10. Full members have completed the full 50 in 50 different states.
The couple always have a few marathons on the horizon. It seems to help them avoid post marathon depression because they are always in training for the next one! Or, possibly the experience of the previous 7 marathons has left their brains slightly oxygen deprived. I think I even overhead Jill talking about a marathon on each continent!
Seriously, walking with the two of them should come with a warning that you might overdose on optimism. Their enthusiasm is infectious.
So, if you found that December hiatus from training just a bit too long and are wanting a lifelong walking project, check out the website.

Yes, walking with Jay and Jill every Friday certainly is an uplifting experience with their bubbly positive attitudes; great smiles on and a true passion for what they are doing. I love it too that if you even mention a marathon in a new state they have not done, Jill will say 'where, where? when?'! Congrats on fulfilling your dreams and passion and best of everything in Myrtle Beach!
Hi Everyone
With the Myrtle Beach Marathon one week away, I must admit always having a marathon goal keeps us training in all types of conditions (the past few weeks have been a greuling test). I want to let everyone know the real secret to our success. Training schedules, nutrition, exercises, events that are inclusive to all, classes, encouragement, group walks, energy, inspiration and confidence are all a part of our big secret.
It is the kind of secret that everyone should know so feel free to spread the word. WowPowerWalking is our secret and our fearless leader, Lee Scott, works endlessly to make it all happen. We had never done a marathon before we met Lee and we have now done 7 marathons in 2 years. Myrtle Beach will be our 8th marathon in 8 states with our goal to reach 11 this year (including our first Ultra Marathon and our second marathon in the Seven Continents Club). Lee believes we can do it and we believe her and proudly say "PowerWalking is what we do!".
Every marathon is a different adventure, no two are alike. We have travelled to places we have never visited before (including Myrtle Beach - we don't golf)and we see all the sights while powerwalking a marathon. We are thrilled to have powerwalking in our lives. It is an addiction that is great for our health and we couldn't imagine life without powerwalking.
Thank you Lee.
Wow Jill and Jay, you guys are an inspiration. You have set your sights on achieving an amazing goal and I have no doubt that with your positive approach to all aspects of your training, not to mention your huge enjoyment of powerwalking, you will succeed. Good luck in Myrtle Beach!
Congratulations on attaining your goals. Very exciting. All the best in Myrtle Beach...
Youg guys are awesome!!!!
